Radio Night

by Greg Holowka

November 16 - 18, 2017

Salle Martial-Caron
Université de Saint-Boniface

200 Avenue de la Cathedrale
Winnipeg MB R2H 0H7

Set in Winnipeg in the 1950's at radio station CKZQ, the play depicts the ups and downs encountered by cast and crew as they perform two live radio shows on air.

Return to days of old when a radio broadcast was a major form of entertainment, and the family stayed home to listen to their favourite show on radio night.

To add to your listening pleasure, we have invited two guest artists, Ervin Payne and Michelle Anseeuw, to perform with us.

Ervin played with the Ray Richardson's Canadian Ink Spots for a number of years. He joined the group in 1997 as a guitarist and singer, and in 1999 became a lead singer. With the Ink Spots, Ervin toured throughout Canada and the U.S. until his retirement from the group in 2013. He was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but has lived in Winnipeg since 2004.He still continues to sing with his wife Rita in the Sargent Avenue Mennonite church choir. He also continues to perform  as lead singer and rhythm guitarist with a group called "Rock the House." Most weekends, they play in various venues around the city, but he graciously accepted an invitation to perform with us for Thursday and Friday evenings at 8:05pm and the Saturday matinee show. WMT would like to thank him for adding some tunes from the times to Radio Night.

Michelle Anseeuw, of Oak Bluff, is the lead vocalist of The InClines' "Sweet Dreams of Patsy Cline", a musical celebration of the life and times of the legendary Patsy Cline. Michelle has performed her show for over 16 years at numerous casino main-stages, theatres, festivals, and corporate functions throughout Manitoba and other parts of Canada. Michelle went to Sanford Collegiate and this is where she became friends with our director. As a result of this friendship, Michelle eagerly accepted the invitation to perform as Patsy for the "Radio Night" audience. She is accompanied by her guitarist, Ken Biegun, also from The InClines. You can see Michelle's entire show at Club Regent Event Centre on January 28, 2018 – a Sunday 3:00 p.m. matinee performance.
